COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Vanguard Lions played host to Whitman College of Washington for a duel at the Costa Mesa Country Club, the home course for the Blue and Gold. Whitman College ended the day with a combined score of 337 while the Pride walked off the greens with a four man scorecard of 291 led by a two under par 68 for Tyler McDaniel (JR/Temecula, CA). This marks the second straight head-to-head victory for the Lions.
The scores for the Blue went 74, 84, 86, 93 while the Lions got an even par from Trevor Wales (JR/Scottsdale, AZ), a 75 from Titus Goodman (SO/Bakersfield, CA) and a 78 from Nick Kristoff (FR/Altaville, CA) to round out scoring for Vanguard. Collegiate golf counts only the lowest four scores from each team. Exhibition players Bryce Johnson (SO/Perris, CA) (81) and Sam Nelson (SO/Clovis, CA) (82) rounded out the players on the course for VU.
Mesa Linda is the shorter of the two courses at Costa Mesa Country Club and had an overall yardage of 5,600 yards with a slope of 118 and a rating of 66.7. It was designed in 1967 by William F. Bell and was refurbished in 1992 under the direction of Ron Fream. The course features fairways and greens of kikuyu grass which helps facilitate year round play.
