NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Vanguard Beach Volleyball squad made the trek north of Los Angeles to take a pair of NCAA Division I foes in Loyola Marymount (5-0), who is ranked 13th in the country, and Cal State Northridge (1-1) who received votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. The Lions (1-3) fell by identical 5-0 counts on the road.

In the matchup of top pairs, Savannah Slattery and Reka Orsi Toth defeated Kelli Dowell (SR/Redlands, CA) and Hannah Holder (JR/Irvine, CA) 21-4, 21-11. On the second court, Megan Nash and Emma Doud knocked off Gabby Morrison (SO/Paso Robles, CA) and Charity Dennis (SR/Cypress, CA) by scores of 23-21, 21-16. The third pairing saw Sara Kovac and Jess Prichard win over Dani Erdelatz (JR/Stockton, CA) and Brooke Wilsman (SR/Lakeland, FL) 21-5, 21-7. Erin Martin and Veronica Nederend walked off the sand with a 21-10, 21-11 margin over Eliana Johnson (SO/Scottsdale, AZ) and Karly Cantu (JR/Spokane, WA). Paige Painter and Sylvia Hernandez beat Kayla Darm (FR/San Juan Capistrano, CA) and Karli Burk (SO/Yucaipa, CA) 21-17, 21-19. In the exhibition matchup, Bozeno Culo and Ella Boehle bested Mackenzie Mitchell (SO/Costa Mesa, CA) and Angel Carroll (SO/Roy, WA) by a count of 21-6, 21-6.

During the second match of the day, the Lions had a better outcome in the first pairing with Dowell and Holder winning the first set 23-21 before falling 21-15,15-12. Duo number two saw Morrison and Dennis fall 21-11, 26-24 to Darbi Honeycutt and Mikaela Maughan. Erdeltaz and Wilsman fought back from a 21-6 defeat to be narrowly defeated 21-18 in the third pairing. Nicole Nevarez and Lexi McLeod needed extra points but beat Johnson and Burk 22-20, 21-13. Darm and Burk were bested 21-15, 21-8 by Cassidy Rosso and Kailey Klein. The exhibition pairing, the first to go final on the day, saw Mitchell and Carroll fall by identical 21-10 counts.
