TEMPE, Ariz. – The Lions made their second trek East on Interstate 10 to play in the Valley of the Sun, this time taking part in a tri-match with Arizona State University (10-13) and Stetson University (23-8) . Vanguard (1-15) took part in matches two and three losing 5-0 to both the Sun Devils and Hatters, while Stetson defeated ASU 4-1.

After an early morning drive, the action started on court five with Alexa Richardson and Katinka Krahn defeating Bree Belton (FR/Riverside, CA) and Karli Burk (FR/Yucaipa, CA) by scores of 21-8, 21-12. The next pairing to complete was Julie Varga and Lauren Durham taking the victory 21-12, 20-13 over Eliana Johnson (FR/Scottsdale, AZ) and Karly Cantu (SO/Spokane, WA). Kayla Tinker (JR/San Clemente, CA) and Gabby Morrison (FR/Paso Robles, CA) finished next as Sammee Thomas and Darby Dunn took 21-8, 21-10 counts. Kelli Dowell (JR/Redlands, CA) and Hannah Holder (SO/Irvine, CA) played Carly Perales and Sunniva Helland-Hansen losing by margins of 21-18, 21-6. The final duo of the match was Dani Erdeltaz and Charity Dennis (JR/Cypress, CA) who were bested by identical 21-11 counts at the hands of Lexi Ham and Rachel Noble.

Under the lights at the PERA Club, Kate Baldwin and Samantha Plaster were victorious by 21-5, 21-3 scores over Belton and Burk. Johnson and Cantu battled hard to 21-13 scores in both sets against Cierra Flood and Katie Cross of the Sun Devils. Frances Giedraitis and Halle Harker defeated Dowell and Holder 21-14, 21-7. Tinker and Morrison fought to a 21-13, 21-13 margin in each frame against Kwyn Johnson and Mia Rivera from ASU. Sydney Palmer and Ellyson Lundberg took a strong 21-4 win in the opening set before Erdelatz and Dennis had a great showing in the narrow 21-17 to end the day.
