PISMO BEACH/BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Lions wrapped up their inaugural season with a pair of tri-matches in Central California. On Friday, they battled Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Feather River on the sand in Pismo Beach before heading to Bakersfield to compete against Cal State University Northridge and Cal State University Bakersfield. Vanguard was bested in all four matches on the weekend.
Cal Poly 5, Vanguard 0
Taylor Nelson and Adlee Van Winden defeated Kelli Dowell (JR/Redlands, CA) and Dani Erdeltaz 21-10, 21-5. The second pairing of Kayla Tinker (JR/San Clemente, CA) and Gabby Morrison (FR/Paso Robles, CA) were knocked off 21-8, 21-5 by Emily Sonny and Samantha Manley. Eliana Johnson (FR/Scottsdale, AZ) and Charity Dennis (JR/Cypress, CA) were eclipsed 21-2, 21-13 by Raeann Greisen and Macy Gordon. Mackenzie Mitchell (FR/Costa Mesa, CA) and Karli Burk (FR/Yucaipa, CA) lost 21-7, 1-8 in the battle with Dora Beilin and Kat Wright. The final duo of Bree Belton (FR/Riverside, CA) and Karly Cantu (SO/Spokane, WA) were defeated 21-5, 21-9 by Sjea Anderson and Livy Lee.
Feather River 4, Vanguard 1
Vanguard won the opening pair featuring Tinker and Morrison who won 21-10, 18-21, 15-13 over Cyan Blackdeer and Precious Helekahi. Court two went the way of Feather River as Dowell and Erdelatz were eclipsed 21-15, 21-13 by Chloe Hampton and Katie McKay. The scoring from pair three – Johnson and Dennis – was awarded to the Pride as they tallied 12-21, 21-15, and 13-15 set scores. Belton and Cantu fought Kyla Kinlaid and Jill Wright to extra points in the first set before ultimately losing 23-21, 21-15. Court five was 21-16, 21-10 losses by Mitchell and Burke during their fight with Kaitlin Dingle and Arizona Webb.
Bakersfield 5, Vanguard 0
Morrson and Tinker took on Emily Hansen and Sydney Haynes losing in close 21-17, 21-13 bouts. Court two saw Dowell and Erdelatz fight to 21-7, 21-16 losses at the hands of Aleksandra Djordjevi and Briannah Mariner. The third pair Johnson and Dennis were narrowly bested in identical 21-17 scores by Brooke Boiseau and Sarah Garrow. Belton and Cantu lost 21-6 to Mattison Degarmo and Emily Lopes in the first set before giving a solid effort in the final set losing 21-16. The final court of the day saw Mitchell and Burke take on Ally Barber and Sydney Wicks, falling in 21-15, 21-6 counts.
Northridge 5, Vanguard 0
In the final game of the season, Tinker and Morrison kicked things off on court one ultimately falling 21-14, 21-16 to Katie Sato and Aeryn Owens. The second pair – Dowell and Erdelatz – ended in matching 21-12 scores to Kristy Markle and Nickeisha Williams. Johnson and Dennis were close behind with identical 21-10 losses at the hands of Lauren McMurray and Autumn Russell. Court four saw Belton and Cantu fight to 21-12, 21-4 scores against Nicolette Pinkney and Lauren Conati. The final matchup of the year was Mitchell and Burk being defeated 21-13, 21-8 to Shawnee De Oliveiria and Danielle Molinari.
