LA MIRADA, Calif. — Vanguard University took a break from conference action and traveled to Biola University for a game against their former Golden State Athletic Conference foe. Despite their efforts, the Pride fell short Eagles, who walked away with the 15-6 victory. The Pride falls to 14-13 on the season while Biola improves to 13-4 overall.
While Vanguard recorded nine hits on the day, Biola outhit the Pride 15-9 and took advantage of an early five-run lead, leading 10-5 by the end of the fourth inning. Vanguard however, put runs in the books in the top of the second inning. Joe Johnson (FR/Medford, OR) logged the first hit of the day with a singled and made his way to third on a passed ball. Kody Wright (JR/Bakersfield, CA) singled and earned the RBI on Johnson's run home. Wright, along with Dylan Ramie (SR/Ewa Beach, HI), scored runs on a single from Shane Elias-Calles (SR/Mission Viejo, CA). Biola put the lead back in their hands in the bottom of the inning, but the Blue and Gold stole it away with a two run homer smacked to left field by Chris Rodriguez (JR/Tustin, CA). Biola put the momentum back in their dugout, taking back the lead and holding onto it until Vanguard got a word in during the top of the eighth inning. Grady Conner (SO/Costa Mesa, CA) hit a bomb to right field for a solo home run. Unfortunately for the Lions, Biola fired back with two runs in the bottom of the inning and kept the Pride quiet in the ninth.
Seven pitchers appeared on the mound for the Pride and Biola used five. In the box, Vanguard logged nine hits. Grady went 1-for-1 and scored once, while Rodriguez and Michael Fuchs (SR/Irvine, CA) both went 1-for-4 on the day, also scoring one run a piece. Elias-Calles had a 2-for-4 performance at bat while Johsnon and Ramie finished the day going 1-for-3 at the plate.
