COSTA MESA, Calif. — (RV) Vanguard University found themselves outhit and outrun early by non-conference opponent Chapman University in their first road game of the season, resulting in a 16-4 loss for the Blue and Gold. The Lions drop to 4-5 overall with the loss while Chapman opens the season at 1-0.
All was quiet for the Lions who could not break through the Panther defense. The Pride struggled to get hits but saw some action nearing the final innings. The Pride saw some more action in the top of the seventh inning as Josh Weeks (SO/Murrieta, CA) singled to center field to pick up an RBI with Sam Neufeld (JR/Indio, CA)'s run. Perry stepped up to the box and sent the pitch soaring to left field for a two-run home run.
Vanguard cycled through seven pitchers throughout nearly four hour long contest. Michael Kashou (SO/Anaheim, CA) (1-2) pitched over four innings, striking out six batters and walking four. Perry, Neufeld, Elias-Calles and Weeks were 1-3 at the plate and Michael Fuchs (SR/Irvine, CA) was 1-4 in the box.
