NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Vanguard Lions (0-4) continue play against top NCAA competition, visiting Cal State University Northridge (1-0) as the Matadors finished with a 5-0 victory. Playing at the Matador Beach Volleyball Facility, the top pairing of Gabby Morrison (FR/Paso Robles, CA) and Kayla Tinker (JR/San Clemente, CA) fell by identical 21-14 counts. Hannah Holder (SO/Irvine, CA) and Kelli Dowell (JR/Redlands, CA), the second pairing for the Blue and Gold, ended with a tight 21-18 loss in the opening set before ending 21-9 in set two. Dani Erdelatz (SO/Stockton, CA) and Charity Dennis (JR/Cypress, CA) lost 21-9 before forcing extra points in the second set 25-23. Karly Cantu (SO/Spokane, WA) and Eliana Johnson (FR/Scottsdale, AZ) were defeated 21-14, 21-14 in the fourth pairing. The final countable pairing of Karli Burk (FR/Yucaipa, CA) and Bree Belton (FR/Riverside, CA) lost 21-6, 21-4. In the exhibition matchup, Mackenzie Mitchell (FR/Costa Mesa, CA) and Angel Carroll (FR/Roy, WA) were knocked off 21-7 and 21-7.
