COSTA MESA, Calif. - With a conference deciding contest against Biola on the horizon, the Vanguard University Lions (30-19) hosted the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (30-16). This was the second time that these sides had met, with the Pioneers having won 9-8 in Antelope Valley. Unfortunately, the Lions failed to avenge this prior defeat, losing 2-0 over nine innings.
The opening three innings of the game were largely uneventful, with both teams registering three hits between them. The Pioneers then finally breathed life into the game, with both of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Pride only managed three more hits through the final five innings, to amass a total of six hits. Despite the shutout defeat, Shane Elias-Calles (JR/Mission Viejo, CA) showed well in the field with ten putouts. Three different pitchers took the mound for the Pride, with Michael Kashou (FR/Anaheim, CA) starting and pitching the first seven innings. Josh Bailly (JR/Union City. CA) and Christian Sheehan (SR/Redondo Beach, CA) pitched the final two innings, splitting an inning each.
Next Game: Friday, April 28th at Biola University at 3:00 p.m.
