STOCKTON, Calif.- Having won games one and two of the three-game series, the Vanguard University Lions (27-17, 16-8) had every right to go into game three with plenty of confidence. However, the William Jessup University Warriors (9-28, 4-19) played better in game two than they did in game one, and unfortunately this trend continued. After nine innings, the Warriors prevented a series sweep by defeating the Lions 4-1.
Despite their defeat, the Pride started where they left off by scoring their solitary run in the top of the first inning. Shane Elias-Calles (JR/Mission Viejo, CA) doubled to right-field and then scored from Trai Patrick (SR/Everett, WA)'s single down the right field line. However, the Warriors got their frustration out from the previous two games, by scoring all four of their runs in the bottom of the first. Therefore, despite the fact that game went nine innings, the contest was essentially decided after the opening inning. Over the next eight innings, both sides only managed ten hits between them. Monty McCasland (SR/Bushland, TX) started and pitched the first seven innings, before being replaced by Michael Kashou (FR/Anaheim, CA) for the final inning. The Blue and Gold head home retaining first place, with a one-game advantage over second place rival Biola.
Next Game: Tuesday, April 18th against Marymount California University at 2:30 p.m.
