Lions Blasted by Mustangs in Double-Header

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The 9th ranked Lions were bested in both games of the double-header with The Master's College (RV). Vanguard (35-12-1, 20-7) fell by scores of 18-0 and 8-1 against the Mustangs who hold a 31-15, 16-11 record this year. This season, TMC holds a 4-2 advantage in games won over the Blue and Gold.

Game One: The Master's College 18, Vanguard 0

To start of the day, the Lions could never get going. In 30 at bats, they recorded only six hits and one drawn walk while also tallying seven strikeouts. For TMC, they jacked up 18 runs off 21 hits and 15 RBI's, taking advantage of seven base on balls. The offensive onslaught started with the Mustangs first trip to the plate as they ended the first inning up 7-0. They added a run in the third before throwing up another massive inning, exiting the fourth inning holding a 15-0 lead. The bleeding kept going as they scored three more runs to mark the worst loss for VU this season.

Game Two: The Master's College 8, Vanguard 1

In the second part of the double-header, things initially seemed to cool off. The first two innings produced no scores and the Lions were about to grab an early 1-0 lead which held until the bottom of the fourth inning. Then in just a few minutes, TMC was holding a 5-1 lead and never looked back. Three additional runs to close out the sixth inning sealed the deal and sent the Lions to lose only their second weekend series all year, both of which came at the hands of The Master's College.

With only one week remaining in the GSAC regular season, the Pride will look to right the ship before they host Biola University (27-23, 14-13) on Friday, April 29th at 3:00 p.m. Vanguard will need to have strong showings in all three contests and receive a little help to win the conference title.
