ROCKLIN, Calif. – Vanguard (8-1, 1-0) began Golden State Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 road victory over William Jessup (0-7, 0-1). Sean Isaac (SR/Redondo Beach, CA) had one of the best performances of his career as he struck out 15 batters in only 7.1 innings. Brandon Sandoval (JR/Fallbrook, CA) was hot at the plate recording a hit on 3-5 attempts and batting in two runs.
The scoring action did not get underway until the top of the seventh inning when the Pride scored two runs on a double to right center by Sandoval. Vanguard's final run was plated on Dylan Ramie (JR/Ewa Beach, HI)'s single to left.
Kevin Bettencourt (SR/Modesto, CA) recorded a game high 16 put outs in part to the great groove the pitcher and catcher were in the evening. Apart from Sandoval's multi-hit game, the rest of the four hits came from individual members of the Pride. Isaac only allowed two hits and one run. Michael Jordan (SR/Murrieta, CA) rounded out the final five outs for the Blue and Gold and grabs his first save of the year.
"It was a solid game plan from coach Osegura. It's the best feeling when you're stuff is working and you know your offense will come through at some point. I pitch for the best team in the country and these guys have my back every week," starting pitcher Isaac declared.
The Lions will wrap up the series with William Jessup tomorrow morning before heading back to the Vanguard campus.
