Game One: Vanguard 4, The Master's 2
After falling to an early 2-0 deficit in the first innings, the Lions were able to hold the Mustangs scoreless through the final eight innings. Scott Torrey bounced back from a rocky first inning that saw him allow two solo shots. Torrey ended the game allowing two runs, five hits, and four strikeouts in his complete game performance.
In the top third, Justin Vega (SO/Chatsworth, CA) came home after reaching base on a walk, an error at shortstop, and a Jose Rojas RBI single. Brock Eissman (SO/San Clemente, CA) would come home via wild pitch. All knotted up after three, 3-3.
Jose Rojas would return to the plate in the top of the sixth to deliver a solo shot to right field to bring the Lions up 3-2. Vanguard would get an insurance run in the ninth, but it didn't matter as The Master's came up empty in the bottom ninth. Vanguard wins game one, 4-2.
