PHOENIX, Ariz. – Late hitting led Vanguard (24-12, 18-10) to an 11-3 victory over Arizona Christian (8-22, 8-20). Shortstop Jose Rojas (JR/Anaheim, CA) had an impressive game as he went 4-for-5 with four runs batted in and a home run.
Through six innings of work, starter Sean Isaac (SO/Redondo Beach, CA) struck out seven batters and allowed two runs on five hits. Isaac improves to 6-2 on the year.
With the Lions trailing 2-1 heading into the top sixth, Rojas hit a two-run shot to bring The Pride up, 3-2. One inning later, Brock Eissman (SO/San Clemente, CA) and Brandon Sandoval (SO/Fallbrook, CA) each had RBI singles. Paul Keating (JR/Oceanside, CA) capped off the scoring in the inning with a sac-fly to bring home Bettencourt.
Leading 6-3, the Lions erupted in the ninth to add five more runs on five hits. Vanguard beats Arizona Christian 11-3. Taylor McKnight (SR/Mission Viejo, CA) went 3-for-5 while Brett Collins and Kevin Betterncourt knocked in two runs apiece.
The Lions are currently fourth in the GSAC. They look to extend their four-game win streak as they face the Firestorm again in a doubleheader Saturday (Mar. 28) morning. First pitch for game on is set for 11:00 a.m.
