Lions Blanked by ACU

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Lions (8-4, 3-4) were unable to produce any runs against the visiting Arizona Christian Firestorm (3-4, 3-4), as they were shut out 1-0 at home. The Lions dropped the first game of the three game series despite another strong showing from from Sean Isaac (SO/Redondo Beach, CA), as they were unable to score any runs off opposing lefty, Tommy Lay.

Isaac went the distance on the mound, striking out nine Firestorm batters and allowing seven hits and one run. That run came from the first batter that Isaac faced on the day, as the leadoff man Christopher Burks crushed a solo home run over the right field fence to give Lay all of the run support that he would need. That would be the only fault of the day for Isaac, but he was unable to find any run support of his own, as Lay and the Firestorm limited the Lions to six hits over the course of the game.

Brett Collins was able to go 2-for-4 on the day, but was the only Vanguard player with multiple hits. The Lions will hope to find their bats again tomorrow as they host the Firestorm and close out the series with a double header. The games will be played in Costa Mesa, with the first pitch scheduled for 11:00am.
