COSTA MESA, Calif. – Jordan Moak (JR/Sulphur, LA) tallied a win for the Lions on Tuesday against Bethesda after pitching five innings, allowing one run and striking out four. Moak moves to 1-0 on the year while propelling Vanguard to 29-18 overall. Catcher John Collins (SR/Fallbrook, CA) continued to rake for The Pride with a four-hit performance to lead all players.

Three of Collins' knocks were doubles on the day, as he tallied two RBI. Not far behind was lead-off man Nick Rodda (SR/Santa Rosa, CA), who went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a pair of two-baggers.

Vanguard trailed 1-0 after the first but used a three-run third inning to give Moak the lead.

Moak zeroed the Flames for the remainder of his outing and was rewarded as VU built its advantage to five runs after posting two in the fourth off of RBI singles from Ian Sakry (SR/Long Beach, CA) and J. Collins and one in the fifth after J. Collins doubled to left to score Bret Collins (JR/Manhattan Beach, CA).

Both squads were quiet until the eighth when Bethesda managed a run, but Vanguard came right back at the Flames to match BU's production by way of a Rodda RBI double.

Sakry went 2-for-4 for the Blue and Gold with a run scored and an RBI in the win.

The Lions have a huge Golden State Athletic Conference series coming up against No. 22 Concordia. Vanguard must win two of three contests to guarantee a berth into the GSAC Tournament. Friday's game is slated for 3:00 pm at home, and Saturday's noon doubleheader will also serve as senior day.
