LA MIRADA, Calif. – Biola hit a walk-off single to hand No. 24 Vanguard a tough Golden State Athletic Conference loss on Wednesday at Eagles Diamond Field. Senior catcher John Collins did everything in his power to keep his team out front with a double and a two-run homerun, but it was not meant to be as the Eagles took the game 6-5.
Bret Collins also went 2-for-4 in the affair. The Lions' remaining knocks went to John Schwer and Nick Rodda.
The Pride held a 1-0 lead through four frames and extended the advantage to 2-0 in the top of the fifth via a Schwer single.
However, Biola managed to score in the bottom of the inning and tacked on another in the sixth to tie the slate at 2-all.
Vanguard fought back in the seventh and eighth to regain the lead at 5-2, but the Eagles rallied in the eighth and ninth with two runs per frame to secure the victory.
The Lions have a chance for redemption on Thursday as the road series resumes with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
