IRVINE, Calif. – Vanguard's Eddie Rivera (SR, Anaheim, CA) tossed a four-hitter in eight innings of work on Friday as the Lions upset No. 9 Concordia (17-7, 9-6 GSAC) 6-1 in Golden State Athletic Conference baseball play.
The Blue and Gold have won three-straight league match-ups and sit at 13-8 on the season. The win puts VU above .500 (8-7) in GSAC action.
The Lions doubled the Eagles' offensive production in the game, tallying eight hits compared to CUI's four.
The top of Vanguard's order compiled five of the eight knocks as Nick Rodda (SR, Santa Rosa, CA), Brandon Sandoval (FR, Fallbrook, CA) and Bret Collins (JR, Manhattan Beach, CA) went 1-for-4, 2-for-4 and 2-for-4, respectively, in the contest.
Sandoval garnered half of The Pride's RBIs.
John Schwer (SR, Burbank, CA) came up with the competition's lone multi-base knock, a double, while Rodda picked up the only stolen base of the day.
The Eagles' Robbie Ingram took the loss and drops to 2-2 overall.
Rivera's victory puts him at 2-1 on the year. He registered four strikeouts in the win.
The series resumes Saturday, March 8th (11:00am) at Concordia.
