IRVINE, Calif. – VU baseball split games with ninth-ranked Concordia on Saturday to improve to 13-9 overall (9-8 GSAC). The Lions won the series (2-1) with a 6-1 victory on Friday and a 7-0 shutout in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
Thomas Mobley was stellar in the DH, leading the Blue and Gold with five hits, two RBIs and four runs scored.
VU's Clayton Voechting notched the complete game shutout in game two, throwing seven innings and striking out six for The Pride. He has won three games in 2014.
Vanguard jumped out to a considerable lead in the first inning of the nightcap, scoring four runs via three hits and a CUI fielding error. The knocks belonged to Brandon Sandoval, Bret Collins and John Schwer. Schwer tallied three of the RBIs with his triple to left center, while Taylor McKnight acquired the fourth with his groundout to second.
Marshall McKinnon took the loss in the opener after allowing a run in the final frame of the contest.
Four Lions, Nick Rodda, Mobley, Schwer and Jack Daru, hit doubles in game one.
Vanguard resumes Golden State Athletic Conference play at 3:00pm on Monday versus Biola.
