COSTA MESA, Calif. – No. 22 San Diego Christian (16-4, 9-3 GSAC) bounced back from Friday's loss with a pair of 6-2 victories over Vanguard (9-8, 5-7 GSAC) on Saturday at the VU Baseball Field.
Seniors Bret Collins (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Thomas Mobley (Anaheim, Calif.) recorded four of the Lions' seven hits in the opener with a pair of 2-for-4 efforts. Mobley garnered the Pride's lone RBI in the affair with a double in the bottom of the first frame.
Freshman Brandon Sandoval (Fallbrook, Calif.), senior Greg Younger (Bakersfield, Calif.) and senior John Collins (Fallbrook, Calif.) registered Vanguard's remaining hits.
San Diego Christian posted a four-run first inning of off VU's Richard Perry (Fontana, Calif.). Perry takes the loss and drops to 1-2 overall.
In the nightcap, SDCC took another early lead, scoring four runs in the third off of VU starter senior Clayton Voechting (Temecula, Calif.).
The Hawks posted two more in the sixth before Vanguard got on the board in the seventh with two scores of its own.
A B. Collins' RBI double brought in senior Nick Rodda (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and junior Taylor McKnight (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was responsible for the Pride's final run of the day.
McKnight and senior Jack Daru (Bradenton, Fla.) paced VU with two hits apiece in game two.
The Lions are scheduled to host Biola on February 28th and March 1st for a three game GSAC series.
