SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Freshman Brandon Sandoval (Fallbrook, Calif.) was outstanding against No. 12 The Master's College on Friday, going 3-for-4 with a homerun, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored and a walk, but the Mustangs managed three late runs to steal a 9-7 win from the Lions.
Vanguard's 2014 record stands at 9-4 overall (4-3 GSAC), while TMC boasts a 14-2 season mark and is 8-2 in conference match-ups.
The Lions held a 4-1 edge after two frames and had built a 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
The Mustangs managed the tying run in the bottom of the inning and the momentum carried over into the eighth where TMC posted three additional scores to secure a 9-7 advantage in the game.
TMC's closer, Andrew Klausmeier, did the rest of the work as got his team out of the frame unscathed to pick up a save.
Senior Bret Collins (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), senior John Schwer (Burbank, Calif.) and junior Taylor McKnight (Mission Viejo, Calif.) each posted two hits in the contest for Vanguard.
Schwer tallied a pair of RBIs in the seventh via his base hit up the middle. Seniors John Collins (Fallbrook, Calif.) and Thomas Mobley (Anaheim, Calif.) collected the Lions' remaining RBIs on the day.
The series will resume Saturday at 11:00am in Santa Clarita.
