SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Vanguard fell at No. 7 The Master's College 4-1 on Friday afternoon but nearly matched the Mustangs' hit total as senior Bryce Arroyo (Brea, Calif.), senior Ellis Whitman (Seattle, Wash.) and sophomore Taylor McKnight (Mission Viejo, Calif.) posted two hits piece for the Pride.
All three players went 2-for-4 in the game. Whitman registered the Blue and Gold's RBI in the fourth inning with a single up the middle to score junior Thomas Mobley (Anaheim, Calif.).
The Mustangs posted single runs in the first, fourth, fifth and eighth innings to secure the victory.
Senior Kamakani Usui (Honolulu, Hawaii) pitched a complete game for the Lions and took the loss to move to 3-5 on the season. He struck out five and walked three in the effort.
Vanguard's remaining hits belonged to seniors Jason Ochart (Glendale, Calif.) and Nikko Tountas (Lincolnwood, Ill.), who went 1-for-3 and 1-for-1, respectively, in the loss.
Both teams left seven runners stranded in the contest.
The Lions return to TMC on Saturday for a noon doubleheader with the Mustangs.
