COSTA MESA, Calif. – San Diego Christian defeated Vanguard 13-2 on Friday at the VU Baseball Field. The Hawks out-hit the Lions 16-6 in the Golden State Athletic Conference contest to improve to 29-13 overall (15-13 GSAC). The Lions drop to 16-25 on the year and 9-19 in league slates with the loss.
After three innings, SDCC found itself with a 6-0 advantage.
The Pride's starter, senior Kamakani Usui (Honolulu, Hawaii) (3-6) was replaced in the fourth by junior Richard Perry (Fontana, Calif.), who tossed four scoreless innings for the Blue and Gold.
During Perry's stint on the mound, the Lions' offense got on the board, scoring two runs in the sixth, by way of head's up base-running from senior Jason Ochart (Glendale, Calif.) and singles from senior Bryce Arroyo (Brea, Calif.) and sophomore Taylor McKnight (Mission Viejo, Calif.).
In the eighth, however, the Hawks tacked on five more runs off of four knocks. San Diego Christian did not stop there, garnering the game's final two runs in the ninth via four additional hits and a VU error.
The series is set to resume on Saturday at noon.
