LA MIRADA, Calif. – Senior Bryce Arroyo (Brea, Calif.) tallied three of the Lions' nine hits and a pair of RBIs as Vanguard claimed a 7-3 Golden State Athletic Conference victory over Biola on the road Friday. With the win the Pride move to 9-8 on the season and 4-8 in conference play.
Vanguard held a 4-1 edge headed into the top of the eighth but allowed the Eagles to sneak back in and come within a run before erupting in the ninth to post three runs off of three hits and a BU error.
Second baseman Adonis Tountas (Lincolnwood, Ill.) not only recorded a 2-RBI double in the final inning, but also had a base knock in the fifth to go two-for-five on the day.
Senior Kamakani Usui (Honolulu, Hawaii) sealed the win for the Blue and Gold, throwing 7.2 innings and striking out four. He walked two, gave up seven hits and allowed three runs in his stint.
Kevin Ponzo (San Dimas, Calif.) relieved Usui and earned his seventh save of the season.
The GSAC series with Biola continues on Saturday beginning at 11:00am.
