COSTA MESA, Calif. - Vanguard outhit The Master's College 7-6 on Friday afternoon but could not match the Mustang's run total as the Lions fell 4-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
The Pride took a 1-0 lead in the third after an RBI double from senior Jason Ochart (Glendale, Calif.) scored classmate Nikko Tountas (Lincolnwood, Ill.). The Lions fell behind an inning later, however, and could not recover despite scoring another run in the eighth after going down 4-1.
Ochart and senior Ellis Whitman (Seattle, Wash.) tallied two hits apiece in the contest. Both of Ochart's hits were doubles.
Senior Bryce Arroyo (Brea, Calif.) was responsible for the Lions' eighth-inning RBI. He went 1-for-3 on the afternoon with a single to left field.
Brothers N. Tountas and Adonis Tountas (Lincolnwood, Ill.) collected Vanguard's remaining knocks.
Senior Travis Tomsen (Riverside, Calif.) threw seven innings for the Blue and Gold and took the loss. He falls to 1-3 on the season.
TMC moves to 10-5 overall and 6-4 in conference with the win. Vanguard is currently 5-4 on the season and 2-4 in GSAC games.
The Lions and the Mustangs are back in action on Saturday at the VU Baseball Field. The doubleheader is scheduled for 11:00am.
