Game 1: Vanguard 5, Fresno Pacific 4
Fresno Pacific started the day off reaching the scoreboard in the first inning with an RBI single down the right field line by Michael Rivera.
Vanguard tied the scored in the bottom of the inning with a single up the middle by Brandon Young, scoring Hank Yates.
The Lions took the lead with two scores in the bottom of the fourth inning. The runs came from an RBI single from Nikko Tountas and a sacrifice fly from John Collins.
Fresno Pacific rallied and took the lead in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three runs.
The Blue and Gold took the lead for good with two runs scored in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run double by Yates.
Michael Rivera was 2-3 with two RBI for the Sunbirds.
Hank Yates was 2-3 with two RBI and one run, and Nikko Tountas batted 2-4 to pace the offense for the Pride.
Nik Klungreseter gave 4.2 strong innings in command of the ball, allowing four runs and five hits. J.R. Bromberg earned the win giving up only three hits in the last 4.1 innings of the contest.
Fresno Pacific's Wilson Ashford (3-3) entered in the fourth inning and was on the mound for 2.1 innings, allowing two runs and three hits.
Game 2: Vanguard 2, Fresno Pacific 1
In the second half of the double header, it took until the fourth inning for either team to reach the scoreboard.
Scott Laird singled to center field, scoring Kevin Magill who singled through the left side and stole second base for FPU.
The Lions' J.T. Truhett tied the game, scoring on a throwing error after reaching base on a bunt.
It took the Lions extra innings to take care of Fresno Pacific. Bryce Arroyo knocked a walk off single through the left side scoring Hank Yates in the eighth inning of the scheduled 7-inning nightcap.
Arroyo was the main man offensively for the Pride as he went 2-4 with the key RBI in extra innings.
Third basemen Travis Morgan was 2-2 for the Sunbirds, while four other players had a hit each for Fresno Pacific.
Gabriel Garcia worked the first seven innings for the Blue and Gold, allowing only one run and five hits in seven innings on the mound. Kevin Ponzo closed out the final inning for the Lions allowing a single hit and earned the win in relief.
Fresno Pacific started Derek Benny succumbed five hits and one run in 5.2 innings on the hill. Michael Rivera was on the losing side of the decision allowing one run and one hit in the final two innings of the contest.
The Lions ended the day with an overall record of 16-15, 7-13 in GSAC play. The Sunbirds from Fresno Pacific finish the double header with 19 wins and 18 losses, included 10-14 in conference play.
Vanguard will next cross between the lines of the diamond next week, April 10th, to battle La Sierra University starting at 3:00 p.m.
