Mathew Troupe starts his first season at VU as the pitching coach for Mitch Holland in the 2026-27 school year.
Troupe brings 10 years of coaching experience to the Dean Harvey Field and NCAA Division I playing experience for the VU rotation to learn from. Troupe spent 2025-26 at Golden West College, where he assisted seven pitchers to NCAA Division I commitments, with four pitchers committing to DII schools. Prior to that, Troupe was sensational at Loyola Marymount University, one of two places that he and Coach Holland share as a stop in their careers. Troupe led the pitching staff to back-to-back seasons of most strikeouts by a staff in a season, with the 2025 group leading the West Coast Conference in Ks and placing second in batting average against. Three total pitchers made an All-WCC Team over those two campaigns, and all three were taken in the MLB draft.
It was a similar tale for the 2022 and 2023 campaigns at the University of Hawaii, as Troupe got the Rainbow Warriors to the top of the Big West Conference in ERA in both seasons. The 2022 troop had the most strikeouts in a season since 2006 for Hawaii, three pitchers were drafted between both seasons, and the program had back-to-back winning conference seasons for the first time in its history in the Big West.
Troupe had plenty of success before those two DI stops with the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod Collegiate League. He guided the staff as the head pitching coach in 2019 and 2021, with an East Division Championship in 2019 and eight of his charges getting drafted. Splitting the two seasons was his time as the lead pitching coach for the Great Britain national team, and had not COVID shut down the world, he would have been in the team GB's dugout for the World Baseball Classic in 2020.
Troupe was a four-year player at the University of Arizona, where he got the win as a reliever to give the Wildcats the 2012 NCAA Championship in the final game over South Carolina. He was a Scholar-Athlete each of his four seasons, punched out 99 hitters, and had 15 saves, third-most in program history in 2015 and currently tied for fourth all-time. While injury hampered his final two seasons, he was drafted in the 17th round by the New York Yankees.
Troupe got his degree in Agricultural Business & Economics.
