Deryeghiayan was previously the Head Track and Field Coach at Bonita High School in La Verne, California. He holds a USATF Level 2 Certification and an Advanced Sports and Exercise Nutritional Advisor Certification.
Deryeghiayan's coaching career began in 2012 as the head sprint coach at Bonita High School where he coached 75 boys and girls in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and relays. He then began assisting the cross-country program for the 2014 season. He coached the boy's program to League Champions in the 200m and 400m, sent over 40 athletes to the CIF Prelims, had seven athletes qualify for the CIF Finals, and broke school records in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 4x100m Relay. Under his guidance, the women's program had even greater success with 12 League Championships, over 60 athletes reaching the CIF Prelims, 30 qualifying for the CIF Finals, and 18 reaching CIF Masters. He coached eight athletes to the CIF State Finals where he had three State Championships including a trio of school records.
As an athlete, he competed at Point Loma Nazarene University where he started as a walk-on before earning a full-ride scholarship. There he won the Outstanding Athlete Award, the Most Outstanding Male Athlete Award, two Sportsmanship Awards, and became the fourth fastest 100m sprinter in PLNU history. Deryeghiayan qualified for NAIA National Championships in the 100m, 4x100m, and 4x400m in 2002 and 2004. After college, he competed under Cheetahs International coached by Dr. Ernest Gregoire where he won two Gold Medals at the Pan Armenian Olympics Games (100m, 200m) and was recognized as the Fastest Armenian in the World in 2007. He represented "The World Team" in the 4x400m during "USA vs the World" in 2008. From 2010-2011, he competed under Double Pillar Athletics Track Club coached by Larry Wade.
As accomplished as Deryeghiayan is on the track and as a coach, he is equally as gifted in ministry. He is the holder of a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Fuller Seminary, a Master's degree in Biblical Studies and Theology from Fuller Seminary, and a Church Music and Youth Ministry degree from Point Loma Nazarene University. He is also an adjunct professor at Vanguard in the theology department. He has been an ordained minister since 2008 and has also served as a Youth and Associate Pastor, NMI Los Angeles District Board Member, and NYI District President during his tenure.
Johnny and his wife Tiffany reside in Costa Mesa, California with their daughter, Juliana Joy.
