The athlete: Elda comes to Vanguard from Orange Coast College and begins her VU career this spring…was OCC’s Rookie of the Year in 2005…Named MV Runner in 2006…placed sixth at the 2006 JC Cross Country State meet…competed in the Orange Empire conference…personal best times are 2:16 in the 800m, 4:47 in the 1500m, 18: 36 in the 50gv00m…middle distance runner two…gifted runner who prepped at Newport Harbor High School prior to attending OCC…redshirted…local athlete who should make a smooth transition into Vanguard’s team...look to see a lot more from Hernandez in the blue and gold.
The person: Elda was born on May 21, 1985 in Mexico to her parents Gregory and Ines Hernandez…has two brothers and two sisters…is majoring in Biology and Kinesiology at Vanguard…likes to eat pasta…favorite movie is “Rocky 4…watches girlfriends on television…loves the color blue…enjoys eating desserts and watching TV…would like to meet “Shakira”…believes that violence is the biggest problem in the world…loves that her team is so friendly…has learned from life that nothing is easy and that you have to work hard to achieve what you want…has learned about teamwork from competing in athletics...wants to become a doctor or something in the medical field.
Her thoughts: I selected Vanguard because of the size of the school. I like that you get more attention from the professors.
Coach Wilkin’s Comments: Elda is an extremely gifted middle-distance runner. I am thrilled to have her in the mix. Look for her to provide significant contributions. She will surprise the competition in the GSAC and possesses All-American potential.
