Biography

The athlete:  Humberto will redshirt this track and field season with the Lions…also redshirted in cross country last fall…was a 2006 NAIA Indoor Track and Field All-American with VU’s men’s Distance Medley Relay team last spring…All-American (26th place) performance at the 2005 NAIA Cross Country Meet…became VU’s first men’s GSAC Cross Country Champion…earned All-GSAC, Region II, and NAIA All-American honors in 2005…transferred to VUSC from Orange Coast College…local athlete with an outstanding high school and junior college career…2005 Junior College 1500m State Champion…ran for Coach Charlie Appel at Estancia High School prior to attending OCC…2004 graduate of EHS four-hear high school MVP in track and cross country…2002 CIF Champion…second place at state track meet in the mile run…has personal bests of 1:53 in the 800m, 3:53 in the 1500m, and 14:47 in the 5000m…has been running for a long time…should be fun to watch in his first season of track with the Lions…Rojas will be setting some high goals for 2006.

The person:  Humberto was born on May 30, 1984 in Toluca, Mexico…mother is Zita Sandeval…has three siblings…nicknames are “Pepino” or “Peps”…is a Teaching/Coaching major at Vanguard…likes to eat chicken enchiladas…sports hero is Steve Prefontaine…favorite movie is “Pearl Harbor” and TV show is “That 70’s Show”…loves the color blue…roots for all VU teams…enjoys spending time in Newport Beach…prefers the number seven....spends free time running, surfing, going to movies, and going out with his girlfriend…would like to meet God…believes money is the biggest problem in the world…likes how nice his teammates are…competing in sports has taught him that he can win if he trains hard…would like to run the world’s fastest mile.

His thoughts:  I feel like God called me to Vanguard.  I like that the people are friendly.

Coach Bryan’s Comments:  Humberto is one of the most talented athletes we have ever had.  He is humble, hard working, and team oriented.
