The athlete:  Zachary enters the collegiate ranks from Costa Mesa High School…2003 graduate who played soccer and ran track for the Mustangs…two-time CMHS Track MVP…Golden West League runner up in the 400m as a senior…best three-mile time is 18:00…has been running for four years…arrives to the team after a great summer training program…will need to adjust to the collegiate distance and competition…could challenge for a spot in the top seven on VU’s roster…Lions expect a positive debut season for Powell.

The person:  Zachary was born in Fullerton, California on October 29, 1984 to his parents Randy and Catherine Powell…has one sister…his father works on campus at VU…is undecided on what his major will be at Vanguard…had a 3.7 GPA at CMHS…favorite color is green…likes the number 21…feels like the VU team will be good this year…has learned from life to be himself…competing in athletics has taught him to be a better runner.

His thoughts:  Vanguard seemed like the best choice to me.
