The athlete:  Travis returns for his third season at VUSC…had a strong sophomore year…set a new 8K personal record of 26:00 at the Willamette Invitational in 2005…top three runner for the Lions last year…graduated from Mount Spokane High School in Mead, Washington in 2004…competed in cross country, track and soccer at MSHS…earned the Leadership Award and Distance Runner of the Year…Team Captain…won All-Greater Spokane League laurels in Cross Country while finishing fifth and eighth at the state meet…has been running for eight years…best times are 4:17 in the 1600m, 9:30 in the 3200m, and 15:37 in the 5K…should be physically and mentally ready to excel in his third collegiate season…voted VU’s Most Improved runner in 2005…possesses all-conference and all-region potential…could be a big year for the only current runner who has been with the Lions for the last three years…Hartanov will play a critical role for the Lions in 2006.

The person:  Travis John Hartanov was born on May 28, 1985 in Spokane, Washington to his parents Thomas and Claudia…has three brothers who all run…his younger set of twin brothers (Mike and Morgan) join him at VU this year…Mike also runs cross country…nickname “Giggles”…is a Business student at Vanguard…likes the movie “Save The Last Dance”…roots for the Spokane Shadow…watches the TV show “The Office”…likes all colors and the number nine…enjoys wake boarding, surfing, and spending time in the ocean…likes the camaraderie of his VU Cross Country team…thinks that corrupt governments are the biggest problem in the world…competing in athletics has taught him about perseverance and hard work…wants to become the president of a non-profit organization that changes lives.

His thoughts:  I chose Vanguard because of the location and the community.  I love the ocean breeze I feel while I’m walking to class.

Coach Bryan’s comments:  Travis is a respected leader in our program and a devoted Christ follower.  He is coming off a sensational sophomore year and I am excited to see what he will do for our team this fall.  Travis is ready to step up to the elite level.
