Vanguard University

The athlete:  Tommy is the only true freshman on the Lion roster this season…comes to VU directly from Villa Park High School where he played for Coach Kevin Reynolds…two-time All-Southern League selection…received the “Sixth Man Award” for VPHS who won consecutive League Championships…four-sport athlete at VPHS…stellar defender…has heart and work ethic that will not quit…team player, willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win…has a great future at Vanguard and in the GSAC…athletically talented…good basketball build…has the work ethic and mental focus to make his talents count…expect Tommy to jump right in and make his own mark with the Lions.

The person:  Thomas was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on March 4, 1983 to his parents Paul and Gail Stankan…has a brother and sister who play basketball…plans to major in Business at Vanguard…nickname is “Tomcat”…favorite player is John Stockton…likes the movie “Rudy” and the TV show “Sports Center”…roots for the SF 49ers…hobbies include body boarding and meeting new people…favorite food is chicken…thinks selfishness is the biggest problem in the world…has learned from life to live for today and today only…competing in sports has taught him that if he works hard in the right attitude, he can do anything that God allows…wants to become a loving husband, caring father, and loyal servant to Jesus Christ.

His thoughts:  I believe coming to Vanguard was what God wanted for me.  I love everything about the university.
