Football History

      

Southern California Bible College began competing in six man touch football in 1951, converted to eight man tackle football in 1957, before attempting to make the transition to 11-man competition in 1959. In 1961, the Southern California College administration decided to end the program.

  • A remarkable 75% of SCC's football players, whose vocations are known, entered some form of ministry
  • SCC competed in the Southern California Christian College Conference (S4C)
  • The team was initially known as the Deacons (circa 1940) before transitioning to the name Vanguards in 1957
  • The 1958-59 Football team was inducted in the Vanguard Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004, the first team honored
