COSTA MESA -- The Vanguard beach volleyball program is pleased to announce the hiring of
Christine DeRoos as the new assistant coach. DeRoos joins the VU staff after a successful playing career at the NCAA Division I level and begins her collegiate coaching journey. Jason Miller,
Morgan Nash, and
Conley Thompson remain on the staff as volunteer assistant coaches.
"We are thrilled to add Christine to our beach family," said Head Coach
Kris Dorn. "It's been a joy to watch her blossom in her collegiate career, and to see her faith grow in maturity as well. We are stoked for her wisdom and experience, and to see how she can give to others. She has a huge heart, and it fits well with our values."
DeRoos completed her graduate program at Cal last year and had a 20-8 record as a member of the Golden Bears. The team went 27-10 overall but lost in the first round of the NCAA Championship to Texas. Posting three decisions over ranked opponents, her biggest was over then No. 8 Hawaii in the Big West Semifinals. She played at the fifth pairing in 2022, going 15-12 with six victories over ranked foes. Overall, DeRoos was a captain for three years, netted a record of 74-54, and was also a Big West Academic All-Conference selection.
