The freshman was composed in his first collegiate bout against Menlo's Noak Koyama, winning 3-1. He then picked up a big win over Dominic Marquez of Cuesta College 13-4 and edged Saxton Scott CSU Bakersfield 5-3 to get to the title round. Leo Macias of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was his opponent and Klarcyk made a takedown in the third period to win 4-2. VU had three other podium placers, one of the best opening days the Lions have seen since the program was relaunched. The men return to the mat this week for their first dual against Western Colorado.
