Vanguard Wins 3-2 in Match Play Event

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Vanguard took on the Royals of Hope International University at El Dorado Park Golf Course on Friday in a match play style event. The Lions won 3-2 with Trevor Wales (JR/Scottsdale, AZ) scoring the lowest round at 71, which is one under par for the 6,600 yard course.

Wales won by five holes and the match was called in favor of the Scottsdale, Arizona native after the completion of the 15th hole. Nick Kristoff (FR/Altaville, CA) won his pairing by two holes after earning a victory on hole #17. Bryce Johnson (SO/Perris, CA) rounded out the victories for the Blue and Gold as he won by three holes after finishing the 16th. The matchups featuring Titus Goodman (SO/Bakersfield, CA) and Jacob Smith (FR/Yorba Linda, CA) all went down to the wire, with each ultimately falling on the final green.

Designed by golf legend Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1962, this 6,921-yard, par 72 is home to the prestigious Long Beach Open and incorporates utter serenity with an engaging championship course which was ranked among GolfLink's Top 100 Golf Courses in 2008.
