Isaac Pitches Lions Into Winner's Bracket

LEWISTON, Idaho - Vanguard took the opening game of the 2015 Avista NAIA World Series by a score of 3-1 over Lindsey Wilson. The #10 Lions are 39-20 this year while #7 Lindsey Wilson sports a 41-18 overall record.

The opening three innings of the contest features a back and forth each team managed only one hit and left a total of three runners on the base paths.

Vanguard scored the first run, in the top of the fourth inning, as David Stone (SR/Huntington Beach, CA) scored after reaching base on a fielder's choice. Brett Collins earns the RBI for his single to left field.

Wanting to add some insurance runs, the Lions capitalized on having a runner on third and on second. (In the sixth inning, the Blue and Gold couldn't score when they had the bases loaded and no outs punched.) Taylor McKnight (SR/Mission Viejo, CA) hit a deep shot to center field and the fielder lost the ball in the sun. This aided Brock Eissman (SO/San Clemente, CA) and Jose Rojas (JR/Anaheim, CA) to score for the Pride.

The lone run for Lindsey Wilson came in the bottom of the eight inning. With a runner on second base, the hit slipped through the gap between short stop and third base.

Starter Sean Isaac (JR/Redondo Beach, CA) went the distance for the Lions earning double digit wins on the year (10-5). In nine innings, he allowed only one run on four hits and also struck out six batters. Isaac forced six ground outs and seven fly outs against the 29 batters he faced.

Chris Erker pitched the full game for LWU giving up three runs and nine hits.

In the box, Jose Rojas stays hot going 3-3 with a walk and a scored run. Eissman was 2-5 on the day with six put outs as well.

The Pride will next take the field tomorrow at 3:00 PM against #2 Faulkner (Ala.) who is 48-13 this season.
